While the new Miss USA, Rima Fakih, is not the first Arab-American to win that pageant — Julie Hayek was the first in 1983 — the former Miss Michigan is reportedly getting pressure from a number of Arab-American organizations to "step up" and defend their often-maligned population in the United States.A close associate of Fakih's from the Miss Universe/Miss USA organization said Monday, "There have been several calls to Rima, asking her to get involved, or at least put out a statement. ... However, she is not inclined to do that.
